User Research, Citymapper — problem-solving ticket solution
Challenge 1- Design Thinking
Solving the problems of urban mobility by offering the quickest and cheapest public and private transport routes to their users for the navigation app — Citymapper
Excitement Alert❗️ This is a first step by a graphic designer turning into UI/UX designer through Ironhack BootCamp (Amsterdam).
Problem statement :
Although the current product of UrbanGo already solves some of the main problems of urban mobility, there is one pain point for many users: the different amount of public transport tickets the users have to purchase.
About the App — A little primary research
Citymapper is a public transit app and mapping service that displays transport options, usually with live timing, between two locations in a supported city. It integrates data for all urban modes of transport, including walking, cycling, and driving, in addition to public transportation.
The design process used:
Well, this assessment is based on Design thinking as the title follows! Although the cycle of design thinking isn't completed through this assignment, the part until Initial ideation (prototyping) is what you will see below.
🙎 Emphasize — a little research on the user needs
- Understanding the users,
- Understanding the UI of the app
- Brainstorming the problems
Can’t get ticket information, Can’t get different ticket options, Process of buying the tickets in a new place — buying conditions.
🚩 Define — the actual user needs and problems
- User Interview — Interviewed 5 users
- Brainstorming the problems based on the answers received.
💡 Ideate — challenging assumptions and creating ideas
Considering the various answers obtained and identified pain points, I brainstormed solutions that would help the users with different needs.
This exercise was challenging yet killer mind work :P
😻 Prototype — Enough of daydreaming! Let's get into actual work!!
Analyzing the different needs and brainstormed solutions I refined the solutions that can be executed based on the needs and wants. Further, the ideas were made into wireframes.
A navigation app that can provide more than just navigation!
A global citizen should be able to use the app to the fullest! From navigation to booking the right ticket!
A user must be able to understand: the place he/she is traveling to, self-needs, budget, language, and much more digitally and then buy the right ticket. The above wireframe provides the solution for it.
Moment of truth:
I am a graphic designer who moved to The Netherlands recently from India. Understanding the routes, places and buying tickets was a big challenge initially. The language was a hindrance almost everywhere! I really needed help!
In this particular exercise, I believe I was also a user participating in the research work. As a designer it gave me a good experience to engage, participate and learn with the user and the brand needs!
